Dr. Shalini Ninan Cherian is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at Van Allen Hospital, bringing decades of experience in women’s healthcare, maternal health, medical education, and global healthcare service.

After completing her MBBS, MD, and DGO from Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, Dr. Shalini dedicated over 20 years to serving rural communities in North India alongside her husband, Dr. Anil Cherian, a paediatrician. She later served in Africa for 10 years as the Principal of a Health Sciences Training Institute, contributing significantly to healthcare education and women’s health training.

Dr. Shalini has also served at CMC Vellore in various roles, including Research Assistant, Family Planning Officer, and Visiting Consultant before joining Van Allen Hospital, Kodaikanal.

With a deep passion for improving maternal healthcare outcomes, she has been actively involved in maternal mortality audits and emergency obstetric care training programs. She holds a Diploma in Emergency Obstetric Care from Karolinska University, Sweden, and has trained numerous healthcare professionals in emergency maternal care.

Her academic contributions include serving as a peer reviewer for the WHO publication Integrated Management of Pregnancy and Childbirth and guiding research focused on maternal and women’s health. She has also published articles in the South Sudan Medical Journal.
